How much will the overall treatment cost?

The cost of the overall process is subjective, as it depends on the area being treated, the specific individual’s hair growth cycle and the consistency in which the individual is seen. Since there are many factors impacting the hair growth cycle, there is not a certain timeline that will work for every individual. The more frequently a client is seen, the faster permanent hair removal is possible.

What does electrolysis feel like?

The process of electrolysis is produced through the activation of lye within the hair follicle using a very low direct current. This current will cause slight discomfort while the current is being applied, similar to a pinpoint high vibration. There are options to help with the sensation, such as over-the-counter numbing creams that may be applied prior to walking in for your appointment.
With the nature of this process, each individual will have different tolerance for treatment. Having a deep desire to become hairless will take a moments sacrifice of discomfort for a lifetime of hairless bliss.

Does shaving make hair grow back quicker and coarse?

Shaving does not make hair grow back quicker or coarser! What people see after shaving is a hair that has been clipped at a 45° angle on an epidermal level, thus it seems to be coarser. It is not.
To make hair grow coarser, methods such as tweezing are much more capable of ensuring the hair follicle has time to fully develop and produce deep rooted hair cycles.

How effective is electrolysis?

Electrolysis is the only proven method to permanently remove hair. Methods such as laser or thermolysis simply melt the hair out of the follicle, without destroying the follicle’s ability to produce new hair growth. Though the process of return is a lot longer than natural hair growth, the possibility still wanes.

A successful electrolysis appointment will destroy 40%-60% of the hair follicles treated that day. This percentage is caused by a multitude of factors, including that electrologist’s are humans, thus human error is possible. Though it is crucial to note that even if a follicle isn’t completely destroyed the first time a hair is removed, it does not mean damage to the follicle did not occur. This is great progress.

Should I expect hair growth after treatment?

Electroylsis is a process used to destroy hair follicles in active growth cycle. There are many hair follicles that are in a dormant period that may not show up for months or years if undisturbed. This being said, once an area is cleared for the first time, hair growth will continue to happen. At about a three month mark of treatment, the dormant hairs will become active due to stimulation from the surrounding follicles. This is good progress! This means we are getting closer to complete elimination of hair follicles. It’s normal to experience and means we are on track with the proper treatment.

Is electrolysis covered by insurance?

Electrolysis is covered by insurance if there is a medical necessity prior to operations such as vaginoplasty, phalloplasty or PCOS. Generally, your PCP will administer a note stating electrolysis is necessary for your medical needs. Let you PCP know to refer my service on their referral to your insurance company. Once the insurance company approves, they allocate an authorization number. Some insurance companies will want this number on the superbill I hand you at the end of each session.
Yes Electrolysis does not take insurance directly, however we do have an NPI number that claims our services as “Out of Network”. There are no guarantees about your personal coverage with our services, thus it is crucial to converse with your PCP and insurance provider to obtain prior approval for treatment.
