Pre- & After Treatment Routine
Prepare —
3 months — Should laser be a part of your journey, allow 3 months between your last appointment with laser and first appointment with electrolysis. If a need arises to remove hair, shaving or clipping/trimming are preferred methods.
2 weeks — Exfoliants (peels, micro needling, depilatories) should be forfeit from your routine to allow natural skin oils to build-up. This forfeit will maximize the opportunity of impact during each treatment.
3-5 days — Shave 3-5 days prior to the appointment for the best results during treatment.
24 hours prior — No sunbathing.
Day of Appointment — Perform a thorough hygienic practice on the whole body, focusing especially on the areas planned to be worked on. No topical lotions, oils, make up, deodorants or other salves should be applied to the area being treated prior to treatment. If you choose to use an over-the-counter numbing creme on the area desired for treatment, wrapping the area in saran wrap helps activate the numbing effect.
Limit caffeine and diuretic intakes the day of treatment in order to keep the moisture gradient well hydrated. Try to avoid rushing to the appointment as high intensity movement will increase heart rate and may reduce the effectiveness of epilations.
After treatment —
Night After Treatment — Redness may be present, this is natural. If swollen, icing the area for 15 minute increments is best practice. Avoid active chemicals or peels used for skincare so as to keep the area clean. Blotting with witch hazel, bactine or sea breeze (anti-septics) can be very beneficial in reducing redness. If hydration is needed, use a natural aloe extraction to hydrate.
24-48 Hours — It is recommended to not wear make up for this period as your skin must heal naturally prior to topicals being applied. Avoid saunas, hot tubs and sun exposure as these could irritate the treated areas. If sun exposure cannot be avoided, apply a thin layer of SPF for the duration of exposure and cleanse the area immediately when the opportunity arises that you do not need to be in the sun.
Some scabbing may occur due to lymph activation—avoid picking these scabs as the skin must heal naturally to avoid infection or scarring. Treat the scabbed area with an antibacterial ointment.
